James Henry Batts, Sr. was born on October 6, 1955 to Earnest Walker Batts and the late Aaron Batts,Sr. in Rocky Mount, NC in Edgecombe County. He departed this life on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at home at 400 Kingston Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC We should mourn his Home Going but instead we should rejoice in his going to be with the Lord.
James was reared and lived most of his life in Rocky Mount. He received his elementary education at G.W. Bulluck and graduated from West Edgecombe High School in 1973. He served in the United States Army and was deployed overseas in Germany for several years. After returning from Germany, he worked at the United States Post Office in Rocky Mount.
James leaves to cherish his memory; a daughter Uta Batts of Florida, and one son, James Henry Batts, Jr. of Rocky Mount. He also leaves to cherish his memory his mother Ernestine Batts and a long time beloved companion Iris Sharpe of Rocky Mount.
He further leaves to cherish his memory four grandchildren; Takwon, Sapphire, Messiah and Empress. He leaves four brothers, Aaron, David and Matthew Batts all of Rocky Mount, and Dennis Batts of Greenville, NC; three sisters, Gloria Batts of Tarboro, NC; Hazel Batts of Rocky Mount, NC, and Blanche Pittman (Ben) of Raleigh, NC; one aunt Zola Barnhill of Greenville, NC; sister-in-law, Robin, Carrie, Annie and Nicole Batts; along with a host of nieces, nephews, others relatives and friends. He laves a special thanks to Joshua Sharpe and Eric Coppedge.
James was a kind, loving, and caring son, brother, husband, father and friend. Memories of him will always be near and dear to our hearts.
